The Galesburg Police Department responded to six vehicle burglary-related calls on Wednesday, August 16th where most of the vehicles were left unlocked. In the early morning hours on Wednesday, in the 1600 block of North Cherry Street, a vehicle’s front driver’s side window was shattered and the steering column was broken and tampered with. A male victim said he looked outside and observed two individuals inside his vehicle. Nothing was missing, but the suspects left behind a phone charger.
A 59-year-old man reported his GMC truck was rummaged through in the 3000 block of Buckingham Road.
A 37-year-old woman reported her unlocked vehicle was rummaged through in the 2200 block of Christopher Drive.
Another 37-year-old woman reported her unlocked Subaru SUV was rummaged through in the 1800 block of Cornelia and a $40 roll of quarters was taken.
A 50-year-old woman reported seeing someone on security video rummaging through her unlocked sedan in the 1500 block of Meadow Drive. A small amount of cash was taken, and the unknown individual was also seen unsuccessfully attempting to enter a neighbor’s vehicle.
And finally, a 47-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man reported both of their vehicles were burglarized in the 400 block of Burgland Avenue. Taken were the woman’s purse and iPhone as well as some clothing.
All the incidents remain under investigation.
