Galesburg Police on Friday responded to the 500 block of West Tompkins Street for reports of a battery in progress. At the scene, a 49-year-old woman told police she was out delivering medicine for the organization she works with. The woman said as she was retrieving a tote of medical supplies from the bed of her truck when an unknown white man approached her from the sidewalk and without hesitation, punched the woman directly in the face and then stole two of the totes of medicine. The woman’s 23-year-old daughter was inside the truck during the incident. The woman had a swollen lip and a gash on her lip. She declined medical attention.
Galesburg Police located a tote the following day in the 600 block of West Main Street. The tote contained an unknown amount of medications- mainly capsules for treating chest congestion and other medications for bipolar disorder. The investigation is ongoing. Galesburg Police, at the time of the report, were reviewing area security footage for potential suspects.
