Two for the price of one? Retail chain bringing combo store to Abingdon

A pair of national retail chains are coming to Abingdon under the same roof.

Construction is underway on a combination Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store on Route 41 across from Abbe Lanes Bowling Center.

Abingdon Mayor Ed Swearingen tells WGIL he’s been told the store could open next spring, possibly in April.

The company describes the concept as two great stores coming together under one roof — Family Dollar, ready to meet your family’s needs, alongside Dollar Tree, with its thrilling offerings in seasonal, party, and crafting.

According to the Family Dollar website, the company locates the combo stores in small towns that generally have had limited retail options. It ended fiscal 2022 with approximately 810 combo stores opened and plan to add hundreds more in the coming years.

Family Dollar and Dollar Tree merged in 2015. Galesburg has individual stores for each — a Family Dollar at 1110 E. Main St. and a Dollar Tree at 2037 National Blvd.

It marks the second national retail chain to build a new store in Abingdon this year. Earlier this year, Dollar General opened a DG Market at 712 N. Monroe St. in Abingdon.
