After going winless in conference play for most of the season, the Galesburg boys basketball team got their 2nd conference win in a row with 54-40 win over Alleman Tuesday night. The Silver Streaks are now 7-18 on the season and 2-8 in Western Big 6 conference play.
The game was close most of the way with Galesburg leading Alleman by 2 points at halftime and also at the end of the 3rd quarter. It was the Streaks defense that kept them in the lead. But then Galesburg opened it up in the 4th quarter shooting 6 out of 9 from the field, 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. They outscored Alleman 19-7 in the 4th quarter to clinch the win.
For big timely shots and big timely steals, Cody Jones was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He led the defensive press for the Streaks making tough traps with his intensive play. He finished the night with 2 3-point shots that came at key moments in the game for the Streaks as well as a couple of steals.
Next up for Galesburg is another Western Big 6 match-up and the final road trip of the regular season on Friday (2/02) night when they travel to Moline to take on the Maroons. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you the action starting with the pregame at 6:40 Friday night on 93.7 FM & 1400 AM WGIL, as well as streaming on wgil.com.
