During retirement, Dave focused on his collecting hobby and owned an online shop to support the expansion of his collections. As a connoisseur of art, sports memorabilia, watches, and model trains, Dave possessed a deep knowledge of history, which he shared through captivating storytelling. He enjoyed casino games and was a skilled card player. He had a passion for Harleys and earned the nickname Dawg, short for Harley Dawg. Dave was an excellent cook and would prepare large, elaborate meals for his family. He also shared his generosity with gift giving, especially to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dave was a loving and devoted grandfather, father, brother, uncle, and friend and his love and laughter will be greatly missed.

Dave is survived by his former wife Jeri Galloway and their children, Dustin Atwood of Frisco, Texas, and Brittany (Justin) Chaney of Wataga, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Carter, Jack, Jace, and Mackenzie Chaney. Also surviving is one brother, Robert Bernard of Boody, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog and cat, Diesel and Deuces.
