A Galesburg Police report details just what happened the day someone allegedly got in to Galesburg High School without permission, and after he initially was shown the door.

The report identifies the alleged intruder as Andre Odom, 22, no address listed.

Staff members allege Odom tried to enter the front door of GHS Monday, April 22, claiming he wanted to enroll in school and get a GED, leaving when asked after trying to talk to juvenile females.

“Odom then exited the front doors and re-entered the school through the west side Thiel Gymnasium doors,” the report stated, changing shirts in-between.

The report says the door was held open for him by a student who likely did not realize the danger of doing so.

Odom then went into a classroom talking to a teacher and students about wanting to coach basketball.

Police reports then say Odom went over to the Galesburg Area Vocational Center where he was arrested.

Odom was given a notice to appear in court, which is scheduled for May 22nd, according to court records, on a charge of Criminal Trespass to a Safe School Zone.

“During the morning announcements on April 23, 2024, Principal [Tom] Hawkins warned students not to open the doors for anyone unless they recognize them as students or staff or the individual is wearing an office issued visitors pass,” the police report stated.

The report also indicates no disciplinary action was taken against the student who let Odom in.

WGIL obtained the police report through a Freedom of Information Act request.
