Four former Silver Streaks, a pair of standout boys swimming relay teams and a respected custodian represent the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
The new Hall of Fame members released today by Galesburg Athletic Director Eric Matthews are:
- Grant Gibson (2015), Individual
- Amanda Gunther (2003), Individual
- Shannon Stacey (2007), Individual
- Todd Peterson (1981), Veteran
- Mike Westfall, Friends of Athletics
- 2005-06 200 & 400 yard freestyle relay teams for boys swimming
The five individuals and two relay teams will be enshrined at an induction ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 in the GHS Hegg Performance Arts Center. This celebration will be taking place in conjunction with the Girls & Boys Basketball Thanksgiving Tournaments. At the conclusion of the induction ceremony, inductees will be introduced between the girls and boys Thanksgiving tournament games.
Gibson was an all-state basketball player for the Silver Streaks, finishing his career with 1,817 points, second to only Joey Range (2,390) in career scoring.
Gunther was a standout girls basketball player for the Streaks during Galesburg’s run of state tournament appearances.
Stacey made her mark in cross country and track for the Silver Streaks.
Peterson was a standout in football and wrestling for Galesburg. He was a lineman for the 1980 football team that went undefeated in the Western Big 6 Conference while compiling an 8-1 regular season record. The Streaks lost to Belleville East in the first round of the state playoffs.
Westfall is a custodian for District 205 and helps take care of John Thiel Gymnasium.
Galesburg’s 200 free relay team of David Anderson, Ian Boydstun, Devon Boydstun and Chris Gordon finished second in the state in 2005-06. The same team members took eighth in state in the 400 free relay.
WGIL will feature all of the newly elected members of the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame as the induction ceremony approaches in November.
