Man facing attempted murder, arson and sexual assault charges following incident at Galesburg fire

A man is jailed and charged with attempted murder, aggravated arson and aggravated criminal sexual assault following an incident in Galesburg early Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the Galesburg Police Department, Galesburg Police and Fire responded to a structure fire at 7:39 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Highland Ave.  A juvenile was located in the residence and initially transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center. The juvenile was subsequently transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was extinguished by the Galesburg Fire Department.

As a result of the investigation, Jason D. Fielder, 46, was located in the 600 block of Home Blvd. in Galesburg where he was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated arson and aggravated criminal sexual assault. Police officials said additional charges may be forthcoming.

Fielder remains in custody at the Knox County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.

No other details were released by Galesburg Police or Fire officials.

The Galesburg Police Department and the Galesburg Fire Department were assisted by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, State of Illinois Fire Marshalls Office and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
