A Knox County judge has ordered a man who turned himself in Wednesday on murder and Aggravated Battery charges to remain in jail.
That ruling was made Friday afternoon in the case of Christopher Alfaro, 27, charged with shooting Heath Williams, Sr. last Saturday night at a Moshier Avenue residence.
Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin said the shooting happened during an altercation over what was believed to be a drug transaction around 8:30 p.m.
Williams, 47, who also was believed to be beaten, was taken to the hospital and died a few hours later.
A public defender was used for the hearing, though Alfaro still claims he’s trying to hire private counsel.
Alfaro will next be in court September 18th for a preliminary hearing.
The judge cited a potential “real and present threat to the community” as outlined in the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act in keeping Alfaro locked up, along with a suspicion he might not comply with restrictions if he were to be released.
