Dr. Jeffrey Hill, family medicine physician for 40-plus years in Galesburg, dies

A popular and well-known physician who practiced family medicine in Galesburg for nearly 40 years has died.

Dr. Jeffrey Hill, an original doctor at Medical Arts Clinic and later Galesburg Cottage Medical Group, died Tuesday, August 20 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. He was 82.

According to his obituary, Hill practiced family medicine in England for 10 years prior to emigrating to Galesburg, with his wife Christine and family on Jan. 1, 1980.

He was a 1967 graduate of the University of Wales, Welsh National School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Wycombe General Hospital in Buckinghamshire, England.

Dr. Hill, Dr. Robert Wagner and Dr. Robert Currie, along with the late Dr. Jackson Erffmeyer and the late Dr. Richard Bick, were providers at the original Medical Arts Clinic.

He semi-retired in 2022 from his practice, continuing on caring for residents in nursing homes, and was currently serving as medical director for Traditions Hospice until his passing.

Hill had more than 57 years of experience in medicine.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Chris of Galesburg; two daughters, Nicola (the late Laurence Msall) Hill of Inverness, Illinois and Rebecca (Steve) Zimmerman of Palatine, Illinois; two sons, Simon (Debby) Hill of Palatine and Benjamin (Jurate) Hill of Chicago, Illinois; and one sister, Moreen (Jeffrey) Parr of Neath, Wales, UK.  He also is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private family services were Friday at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
