Major construction work almost complete at both Carl Sandburg College campuses

There were several construction projects ongoing throughout Carl Sandburg College‘s two campuses this summer, and they’re almost to completion.

Sandburg president Seamus Reilly tells WGIL’s “Galesburg in Focus” in an interview to air Saturday, September 7,  the work in Galesburg will finally bring Sandburg’s science and technology-related classes all under one roof.

“(It) would co-locate all of our health professions programs — nursing, practical nursing, and also dental hygiene — and also create new science laboratories,” said Reilly.  “The idea was to keep up to speed with the needed classroom technology, as well as provide a superior experience for our students,”

And, Reilly says, some of the other spaces had been in use since 1972 — far beyond their useful life.

Reilly says the space the dental hygiene program had been occupying in downtown Galesburg at The Annex will be converted into more of an employment center and a place that can house short-length courses if needed.

Reilly says there’s still a little bit of work left underway, but almost complete, in Galesburg.

“We’re also in the middle of a really exciting renovation on the Student Center — Building B — that’s currently under construction, and we hope to be able to move into that space in January, 2025,” said Reilly.  “That space is focused on a co-location of all the student support services , student development center services.”

Some construction work also went on at the Carthage campus, and Reilly says that will allow students to take the whole LPN and other programs there, and they’ll have updated science labs.

Reilly says work in Galesburg is being paid for with bonds issued a few years ago and will be paid back next year, while the Carthage work is being financed through Sandburg’s foundation.
