There now will be just one place to cast your ballot in Abingdon.
The Knox County Clerk’s office announced Wednesday the consolidation of some polling locations in Abingdon for the upcoming Consolidated Election. The Knox County Board approved the consolidation at their regular January board meeting.
The polling locations at Abingdon City Hall, the old Abingdon Police station, and the Cedar Township Highway building will all be moving to the Abingdon Community Center (formerly the Abingdon Nursing Home) at 801 W. Martin St. in Abingdon.
“This move will help the voters in Abingdon avoid any confusion about where they vote on Election Day,” said Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson. “Voters can now go to a single location and be able to find their precinct quickly and efficiently. No more having to drive all over town try to get to the right location.”
Erickson added the Community Center has ample parking and is accessible for those with special needs.
The Knox County Clerk’s office will be mailing out postcards to voters to notify them of the location change. Signs will also be placed at the old locations to direct voters to the new location. The polling location at the Lake Bracken County Club building will not be moving to the new location.
