Thursday night, the Galesburg High School girls basketball team went on the road to Geneseo to take on the Maple Leafs and came away with their 21st win of the season, 45 - 22.
In a much more competitive match-up than their first meeting in December, Geneseo kept the Silver Streaks off balance at times by switching their defense. It was a sluggish night on offense for Galesburg shooting 20 of 59 from the field, just 3 of 20 from 3-point range, and 2 of 5 from the free throw line.
The Streaks were led in scoring by Jozalyn Kilgore with 9 points, Ella Herchenroder had 8, both Taylor Herchenroder and Lily Furrow finished with 5 points, while Josslyn Peck and Zaniyah Carter both scored 4 points. Overall, 10 Galesburg players put points on the board tonight. Galesburg had 36 rebounds, 9 assists and the Maple Leafs' switching defense forced 22 turnovers by the Streaks. Galesburg's defense also caused trouble for Geneseo as the Maple Leafs committed 34 turnovers.
Junior Sophia Kisler was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. Sophia came off the bench in the 4th quarter and provided a big spark for the Streaks to help her team get back on track after Geneseo had chipped away at the lead.
