Timothy Lane “Tim” Stokes, 53, of Alexis, IL, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at his home.
Tim was born on February 14, 1972, in Monmouth, IL, the son of Gerald “Jake” Dean and Patty Anita (Chenault) Stokes. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1991.
Tim served with the United States Marine Corps.
He married Debrah Sue Reynolds on December 7, 2007, in Monmouth and she survives.
Tim was a truck driver for Twomey Company for several years. Most recently Tim worked as a Highway Maintainer for IDOT.
If you knew Tim he had a passion for music. He was a self-taught drummer and guitar player playing for various local bands. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Cardinals and playing music. He also enjoyed going to concerts and meeting many different artists, especially George Jones. Tim was also known as an autograph hound, obtain numerous autographs from musicians to professional athletes. He enjoyed playing cards and dice.
Tim’s pride and joy were his children. He loved attending their many events and just being a part of their lives. He found great joy watching them grow up into to adults.
Tim did not know a stranger. Tim’s wit and humor was legendary. He was known for his one-liners and quick comebacks.
Survivors include his wife Debrah Stokes of Monmouth; his children, Colten Stokes, of Monmouth, Emily Stokes, Raelyn Stokes both of Roseville, IL and Sara Chenault of Moore, OK; his granddaughter, Raegan Bales; his siblings, Bill (Liza) Christofferson of Monmouth, Terri (Jeff) Pearce of Alexis, Tonya Stuart, Carole Stokes, Jerry “Stoker” Stokes, and Brenda (Joe) Clark all of Monmouth; numerous nieces and nephews including Jeremy Stokes, Brook Bolender, Blake Stuart, and Taylor Stuart; great nieces and nephews, Aayvie Adams, Sylen Washington, Bryleigh Stuart, Jayse Stuart, Brayani Stuart, and Huxten Bolender.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Bryan Stuart.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation will take place following the gathering.
