The newly-named Albert and Elbert Kimbrough Fieldhouse on the campus of Galesburg Jr./Sr. High School now has the signage to prove it. And there’s more on the way.

Signage on the athletic fieldhouse was installed last week, according to Galesburg Athletic Director Nick Young. The large black letters stating “Albert and Elbert Kimbrough Fieldhouse” are attached to the east wall of the building.

Young said in addition to the current display, there will be signage and vinyl graphics on the north side main entrance of the building, as well.

“Additionally, we are currently painting the fieldhouse and there will be vinyl graphics on the inside of the facility,” Young said.  “These graphics will be both Silver Streaks graphics and others that will pay tribute to both Albert and Elbert.”

Albert and Elbert Kimbrough
Twins Albert and Elbert Kimbrough were all-state athletes for Galesburg High School.

In October, the District 205 Board of Education unanimously voted to name the field after twin brothers and multi-sport stars Albert and Elbert Kimbrough, a pair of Silver Streaks who made their marks on the football field and basketball court in the 1950s.

“Honoring them is important for many reasons,” Young said. “Most notably for the Kimbrough brothers and their family to get a well deserved recognition and honor.

“Additionally, it will provide an opportunity to serve as a source of inspiration for current and future Silver Streaks both in and out of the classroom.”

An open house for the public to view the additions to Albert and Elbert Kimbrough is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, May 25..
