Perez, Richard V.

Richard V. Perez, 80, of Springfield, at Peace with Christ on April 17, 2025.

Richard was born March 10, 1945, the youngest son of Sostenes and Rufina (Delgado) Perez in Galesburg, Illinois. Richard was a graduate of Galesburg High School. Richard served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Richard married Yolanda Hernandez in 1970.  He was a loving father to his three children, all of whom survive him, two daughters, Linda (Kevin) Koechle of Nauvoo, Illinois and Rebecca (Hector) Espitia of Park Ridge, Illinois and one son, Eric (Esmeralda) Perez of Oak Park, Illinois.  He is also survived by his beloved three grandchildren, Joshua (Katie) Koechle, Logan Koechle, and Cecelia Espitia; one great-grandson, Hudson; and one brother, Jesse (JoVita) Perez of Galesburg, and many loving relatives.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Frank, John, Lupe, Mateo, and Angelo; and four sisters, Helen Rasso, Natalie Sandoval, Marie Perez, and Anita Carlson.

Richard grew up in Galesburg and worked at Butler Manufacturing. He and his family moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1984 where he worked as a construction laborer.  When he was young he played sports, and as an adult he was an avid sports enthusiast. Richard knew all about sports statistics and sports history and looked forward to and enjoyed “March Madness”. Richard enjoyed going to see basketball games with his family. Richard had a great sense of humor, liked to make people laugh and liked to enjoy life. Richard loved a good meal and was an excellent cook!  He demonstrated his love by sharing the food that he made with those he loved. He loved listening to the “oldies” (1950’s and Motown music), and his children reminisce about Sunday drives when they would ride around in the family car listening to music over a pop and a snack.  Richard enjoyed fishing and the quietness it brought by being out in nature. He most loved to be with his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating.  Cremation will take place following services.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
