Tuesday, June 25, marks five years since Fulton County Sheriffs Deputy Troy Chisum died after being shot at while responding to a call in rural Avon.  The gunman, Nathan Woodring of rural Avon, was arrested after a more than 19-hour standoff, found guilty but mentally ill of two murder charges in 2021, and sentenced in 2022 to life in prison.

A number of law enforcement agencies paid tribute to Chisum in the days and weeks that followed, and more -- including the Knox County Sheriffs Department -- helped the department, and aided in the investigation.  That included then-Knox County Sheriff David Clague.

On June 28, 2019, Clague spoke with Will Stevenson on Galesburg's Evening News.  Portions of that interview were rebroadcast Monday, June 24, 2024.
