Brief Winning Streak for the Galesburg Boys Basketball Team Ends With Loss To Moline

After back-to-back conference wins, the Galesburg boys basketball team traveled to Wharton Field House Friday night and lost to the Moline Maroons, 70-38. The Silver Streaks are 7-19 on the season and 2-9 in Western Big 6 conference play.
The 3rd quarter did in the Streaks once again. Actually in the 1st and 3rd quarters Galesburg was out-scored 44-13, but in the 2nd and 4th quarters they were only out-scored 26-25. Turnovers also contributed to the loss with the Streaks turning the ball over 8 times in the first half, and then another 8 times in the 3rd quarter alone.
None of the Silver Streaks scored double digits and in fact the team finished the game making only 35% of their shots. They did much better from the free throw line shooting 66%. Jackson Crock Sibbing was the high scorer for Galesburg with 9 points. Gino Williams and Jace Keith both finished the night with 8 points each.
For his performance in the 2nd quarter, giving the Streaks a spark and a great performance off the bench, sophomore Jaxon Wyatt was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He scored 7 points on the night, all of them in the 2nd quarter, and had 3 rebounds. And with that effort, Jackson helped get the Streaks back into the game until the 3rd quarter.
Next up for the Galesburg boys is the last of the make-up games on the schedule due to the winter weather in January. The Streaks will finally get a home game on Saturday (2/03), their first at John Thiel gym since mid-December, as they take on Peoria Quest. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you the action starting with the pregame at 11:10 Saturday morning on 93.7 FM & 1400 AM WGIL, as well as streaming on wgil.com.
