The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team remains undefeated on the season with a 55 - 46 win over the United Township Panthers. Both teams were undefeated going into the game. The Streaks are now 8 - 0 on the season, and 3 - 0 in the Western Big 6.
With the victory, Head Coach Evan Massey reached 1,000 career wins at GHS. He is one of only 6 active girls coaches in the nation with 1,000 or more wins, and just the 16th overall to reach that achievement. And among high school girls basketball coaches in Illinois, he ranks 3rd in overall wins.
It was a hard fought win for the Silver Streaks who came back from an 11-point deficit. The outside shooting by Senior Antonia Kisler opened up the Streaks offense and was one of the reasons she was chosen as the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. Antonia finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. Kiarra Kilgore had 25 points and another top scorer was Alexis Edgerson with 9 points. The Streaks had six 3-pointers in the game. Syriah Boyd did not score, but had a very strong defensive game. She finished with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 assists. The Streaks forced 23 turnovers by United Township and out rebounded the Panthers, 28 - 26.
