A former southside elementary school will soon be transformed into one of the Galesburg’s newest and most versatile parks.
A bid for construction work at Cooke Park was approved at Monday’s Council meeting. This marks the first phase of the park's development, made possible by volunteer efforts, staff work and a significant state OSLAD grant contribution of $500,000, and half from the city. The initial phase includes playground equipment, a shelter, and a walking path.
Longtime south-end residents Gayla Perez Pacheco and Stephanie Jackson Grimes, driving forces behind bringing the park to fruition, joined WGIL's Jay Redfern and Tyler Gumm on Galesburg's Morning News to talk about the project.
