Discussion about proclamations and ‘Respect Life Month’ at Galesburg City Council

The Galesburg City Council on Monday gave a proclamation to local pro-life advocates to mark October as "Respect Life Month."

That raised the ire of several Council members, both for and against the issue. Two Council members — Sarah Davis and Dwight White — walked out during the reading, though White later explained he was not boycotting the presentation.

Instead of Mayor Peter Schwartzman reading the document, Alderman Evan Miller did so.  In excerpts from the Council meeting, you'll hear from Miller, advocate Brent Zhorne, and Council members Davis, Bradley Hix  and White.  This was edited so as to only present comments related to the proclamation, and not items unrelated to the discussion.

This was originally aired on Galesburg's Evening News Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning on Galesburg's Morning News.
