Lucas Wood, executive director of the Knox/Galesburg Symphony, joined Galesburg's Morning News to talk about the final three concerts of the 2024-25 season, featuring concerts like "Celebrating Black Voices in Classical Music" on February 22 and the "Side-by-Side Wind Band Festival" on March 15.
On Saturday, June 21 "The American Sound" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. at The Orpheum Theatre.
He also discusses the new Symphony Center, which will enhance music education and community engagement.
- It is the new education and administrative center for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. Symphony Center has teaching studios, a recital and event space, and offices for Symphony operations. The Knox-Galesburg Symphony is more than concerts and Symphony Center is part of the next chapter of this orchestra.
- They are working to bring music lessons and education to people of all backgrounds. Lessons are taught by Symphony members or other instructors and scholarships are available for those who qualify.
- In addition to being used for small performances and recitals, the performance space at Symphony Center is available for public rentals.
