Hear from the Galesburg candidates: Mayor, City Council, Township Supervisor

Candidates for Galesburg Mayor, City Council and Township Supervisor participated in a Candidate Forum on Monday, Feb. 24 in the community room at the Galesburg Public Library. The forum was sponsored by Galesburg NAACP Branch 3016.

Candidates participating were:

Mayor: Peter Schwartzman (incumbent)

City Council Ward 2: Wendel Hunigan (challenger)

City Council Ward 4: Dwight White (incumbent) and Corine Anderson (challenger)

City Council Ward 6: Tianna Cervantez (challenger), Demarkius Medley Sr. (challenger) and Greg Saul (challenger)

Township Supervisor: Kimberly Thierry (D), Jennifer Fredrick (R)

Mayoral challenger John Pritchard was unable to attend the forum due to illness. Ward 2 incumbent Alderman Wayne Dennis also was unable to attend the forum.

Heather Norman, general manager of TriStates Public Radio, served as the moderator.

The NAACP also is sponsoring a second forum for candidates for election to the District 205 school board from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 at the Galesburg Public Library.

Election Day for the consolidated election is April 1.
