OSF Health experts talk cancer awareness, screening, treatment

OSF HealthCare experts join WGIL's Chris Postin to discuss cancer awareness, screening and expanded local treatment options in this edition of Galesburg Live.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mary Mowen, director of imaging at OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, urges women to get their mammogram.

Lead imaging tech Heather Hutson previews OSF's second annual Lung Cancer Screening Day coming up Saturday, Nov. 11. She stresses the importance of smokers, former smokers and other high risk individuals to get screened before symptoms are noticed.

And construction continues at OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center on a vault that will house a linear accelerator as part of a project to bring radiation oncology services to this area so local cancer patients can get their treatments close to home.
