During Gold Out Night at John Thiel Gym Friday night, the Galesburg High School boys basketball team fell to the United Township Panthers, 62-40. The Streaks are now 8-18 on the season overall, and 2-8 in Western Big 6 Conference play.
Galesburg out scored United Township in the 3rd quarter and only scored 1 less (19 to 18) than the Panthers in the 2nd half overall, but could not overcome the deficit from the 1st half. The Silver Streaks shot 14 of 44 from the field, 6 of 16 from 3-point range, and just 6 of 14 from the free throw line. The Streaks had 27 rebounds, 6 assists and 15 turnovers. Jackson Crock Sibbing led Galesburg in scoring with 15 points, 11 of which came in the 3rd quarter, Jaxon Wyatt finished with 9 points, Demetrius Watson scored 5 points, and Ethan Oxley, Eden Mayala, and Cesaire Bile each finished with 3 points.
Coming off the bench, Demetrius Watson made an impact as soon as he got into the game and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game for his hustle and determined play. He finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and a couple of assists. Demetrius played as hard as he could, diving all over the place, and providing solid defense as well.
