The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team achieved their 20th win of the season on the road at Normal West on a rare Monday night game. Once again the stifling defense by Galesburg caused all kinds of chaos for their opponent. In the 2nd quarter, they only allowed four shots by the Normal West Wildcats, with all four taken from beyond the three-point line. The Streaks led the entire game and went on to win, 59 -35.
Galesburg was led in scoring by Zaniyah Carter with 14 points, Grace Herchenroder scored 10 points, and Lily Furrow and Jozalyn Kilgore each finished with 8 points. Overall, the Streaks had 10 players contribute to the scoring. The team was 21 of 47 from the field, 4 of 18 from beyond the arc, and 11 of 23 from the free-throw line. The Streaks grabbed 20 rebounds, had 9 assists, committed 9 turnovers, but also caused Normal West to turn the ball over 28 times.
It was a very balanced effort by the Silver Streaks tonight, but Zaniyah Carter cranked things up another notch and was recognized as the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The freshman had a fabulous game, finishing with 14 points, 5 steals, 3 assists, and a rebound. Zaniyah caused havoc all over the court against the Wildcats and her development and growth throughout the season was on full display in this game.
