The Galesburg girls basketball team notched their 20th win of the season in a Western Big 6 conference game at Wharton Fieldhouse versus Moline Thursday night, beating the Maroons, 45 - 37.
The Silver Streaks are now 20-2 on the season and 8-1 in the conference. In the latest Illinois girls basketball state rankings, Galesburg is currently ranked third in Class 3A behind Lincoln and Peoria Central.
It was a sluggish start for Galesburg though, falling behind to Moline in the first quarter, 12-3. But Alexis Edgerson provided the bulk of the scoring for the Streaks in the first half and kept them in the game. For that, Alexis was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. She finished with 16 points in the game, 14 of those in the first half, including 4 three-point plays.
Kiarra Kilgore led the Streaks in scoring with 18 points, but really struggled from the free throw line with 7 of 18 shooting. Antonia Kisler, Syriah Boyd and Ella Herchenroder each contributed 3 points in the game. The Silver Streaks out rebounded the Maroons, 44 to 32. Antonia Kisler led the way in rebounds for Galesburg with 11.
Next up for the Galesburg girls basketball team is a road trip to Morton on Saturday (1/20) to take on the Potters. Pregame coverage with Tom Meredith and Erik Gibson will begin at about 12:40 Saturday afternoon on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.
