The Galesburg Public Library offers Skills and Tech Labs, providing access to diverse equipment like 3D printers, sewing machines, and VR headsets, as well as a sound booth for recording, and much more.
Emma Cork, Lab Manager and Reference Librarian at Galesburg Public Library, joins WGIL's Tyler Gumm and Jay Redfern on Galesburg's Morning News to talk about everything the skills and tech labs have to offer.
According to Cork:
- The Skills Lab is designed as "a place to learn new skills" where individuals can "come in and learn what they needed to do to fix their problem from anything from fixing a hole in their shirt to repairing their bike."
- The Tech Lab is more "computer-based," offering access to digital technologies for various creative and practical purposes.
- The overarching goal is to provide the community with opportunities to learn, create, and access resources they might not otherwise have.
- These labs represent the library's commitment to being "more than just a place for books" and serving as a broader "asset to the community."
