This Saturday, April 12, the Regional Office of Education #33 will host "The First Five" event. It's geared toward children 0-5 and their guardians. It's a free event from 10 a.m. to noon at the ROE offices on Harrison Street, with a focus on self-regulation.
ROE representatives Ashley Hinkle and Lisa Medina-Foshay joined Galesburg's Morning News to preview the event.
This free event is designed for children aged 0 to 5 and their guardians, focusing on the crucial concept of self-regulation in early childhood development. The aim is to educate families about the importance of meeting children's sensory needs and provide practical strategies and resources to support their self-regulatory skills.
The overuse of screens is highlighted as a potential inhibitor of meeting these sensory needs because children are engaged in "that one motion where they're just scrolling" and not using their large muscles or engaging with their environment in diverse ways.
Families attending the event receive a bag with age-appropriate items and resources.
