Songbag concert to feature Mike and Ellen Baum
Saturday, November 26, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$5The “Songbag” concert series at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site showcases the singer-songwriter team of Mike and Ellen Baum on Nov. 26.
Mike Baum brings a voice and sense of humor to his performance that recall Jimmy Buffett. (It’s not every writer who would name a song “Birthday Vulture.”) He calls his music “lyric-centric acoustic folk rock for the thinking person.” Ellen Baum adds a rich, warm voice to the act.
The Baums perform in the Sandburg site’s barn at 313 E. Third Street, Galesburg. The show starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 with a break for refreshments around 8. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. The site’s bookstore will be open during the intermission for anyone wanting to do holiday shopping.
The concert is sponsored by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association.
Carl Sandburg was a collector and performer of America’s folk songs. The series is named in honor of Sandburg’s book “The American Songbag,” published in 1927.
The Carl Sandburg State Historic Site includes the home where the famed poet and biographer was born. For more information, visit www.sandburg.org.
